Gero is a city situated in Gifu, Japan. As of October 31, 2017, the city had a projected population of 33,283, with a population density of 39 individuals per km2 (101/sq mi), spread across 12,253 households. The city spans an area of 851.21 square kilometers (328.65 sq mi). Gero is renowned for its hot springs. Gero is positioned in the east-central part of Gifu Prefecture. The Hida River and the Maze River flow through the city. Over 91% of the city's area is enveloped by mountains and forests. A large portion of the city lies within the boundaries of the Hida-Kisogawa Quasi-National Park. The volcano, Mount Ontake, is also located in Gero.
